Fountain of earthly delights

€950.00

This sculpture is an ode to the brilliant mind of Hieronymus Bosch and his legendary painting ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’, a work that inspires and intrigues me immensely.

The artwork is a window into a world of fantasy and mysticism. The blue fountain with amethysts, the symbol for the garden of Eden, is inhabited by small figures - a dance of demons (mythical animals, half man, half goat) chasing the undressed ladies in an endless cycle, symbolizing the dance with the temptations of life.

  • Mixed media, assemblage technique*

  • Measures 39cm high, 24cm diameter

ASSEMBLAGE

Assemblage is an artistic process in which three-dimensional found objects are thoughtfully combined into a new composition

JHERONIMUS BOSCH - THE GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS (1480-1490)

The Garden of Earthly Delights is the title traditionally given to a triptych by the Southern Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch that is located in the Prado in Madrid.

It occupies a special place in European art history because of its unique late medieval visual language.

Opinions are divided about its precise meaning. Most authors agree that the painter here exposes the sinfulness of humanity.

According to the latest insights, this would be a 'false paradise', in which humanity imagines itself in a situation as it existed before the Fall, without awareness of danger and without knowledge of good and evil.
